The TPS562219ADDFT from Texas Instruments is an easy-to-use 2A synchronous step-down converter in a compact TSOT-23-8 package. The device integrates 133mOhm high-side and 80mOhm low-side MOSFETs and operates from a 4.5V to 17V input, producing an adjustable output from 0.76V to 7V. The D-CAP2 mode control provides fast transient response and supports low-ESR output capacitors (ceramic or polymer) without requiring external compensation components. The device always operates in continuous conduction mode, reducing output ripple at light loads compared to skip-mode converters. Protection features include cycle-by-cycle overcurrent limit, non-latching overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown. An adjustable soft-start controls the output voltage ramp, and a power good output indicates output regulation status. The 1.6mm x 2.9mm TSOT-23-8 package minimizes board space.

The TPS562219ADDFT uses TI D-CAP2 (Direct Capacitor Attenuation Plus 2) mode control. (1) D-CAP2 Control: This is a constant on-time control architecture with an internal ripple injection circuit. The on-time is determined by the input voltage to maintain approximately constant switching frequency. The error amplifier compares the output voltage feedback with the 0.76V reference, and the comparator triggers a new on-time when the combined feedback signal drops below the reference. (2) Ripple Injection: An internal ripple injection circuit adds a synthesized ripple to the feedback signal, enabling stable operation with very low-ESR ceramic output capacitors. (3) Synchronous Rectification: The low-side MOSFET replaces the external Schottky diode, improving efficiency by conducting the inductor current during the off-time. (4) Continuous Conduction: The device always operates in CCM, even at light loads, which reduces output ripple but increases light-load efficiency compared to skip-mode designs. (5) Protection: Cycle-by-cycle OCP limits the inductor valley current. OVP monitors VOUT and pulls PGOOD low when VOUT exceeds the nominal by 110%. UVLO disables the converter when VIN drops below the threshold.
