The TJA1050T from NXP Semiconductors is a high-speed CAN transceiver that serves as the interface between the CAN protocol controller and the physical bus lines. Fully compliant with the ISO 11898 standard, it supports data rates up to 1 Mbps and provides differential transmit and receive capability. The device features very low electromagnetic emission, excellent electromagnetic immunity, and a standby mode consuming only 10uA, making it ideal for automotive and industrial CAN bus applications where power consumption and EMC compliance are critical.

The TJA1050T operates as a differential bus transceiver for the Controller Area Network protocol. **Transmit Path**: The TXD input from the CAN controller drives the bus driver, which generates the differential voltage between CANH and CANL. A dominant bit (TXD=low) drives CANH high (3.5V) and CANL low (1.5V), producing 2V differential. A recessive bit (TXD=high) releases both lines to 2.5V (zero differential). **Receive Path**: The differential receiver continuously monitors the CANH-CANL voltage and outputs the decoded logic level on RXD to the CAN controller. The receiver operates even in standby mode (with very slow response) for remote wake-up detection. **Bus Protection**: CANH and CANL pins are protected against short circuits to +/-18V, and provide ESD protection greater than 4kV. The common mode range extends from -12V to +12V, ensuring reliable communication in noisy automotive environments. **Standby Mode**: The S pin controls operating mode. When S is high, the device enters standby mode drawing only 10uA. A dominant bit on the bus in standby mode generates a wake-up signal.
