The MIC29300-3.3WU-TR from Microchip is a 3A fixed 3.3V LDO regulator with ultra-low 240µA ground current at full load, making it exceptionally battery-friendly. The 600mV max dropout at 3A and wide input range up to 26V suit automotive and industrial applications. The SOT-223 package provides compact surface-mount installation with adequate thermal dissipation. Built-in protections include reverse-battery, current limiting, and thermal shutdown.

The MIC29300 uses a PNP pass transistor architecture that achieves low dropout voltage and ultra-low ground current. Unlike NPN-based LDOs where ground current equals output current, the PNP design draws only base drive current plus bias, resulting in constant ground current regardless of load. The error amplifier regulates output by controlling base drive to the pass transistor.
