The LMR23630 SIMPLE SWITCHER® is an easy-to-use 36V, 3A synchronous step-down regulator with a wide input range from 4V to 36V, suitable for various industrial applications for power conditioning from unregulated sources. Peak current-mode control is employed to achieve simple control-loop compensation and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. A quiescent current of 75µA makes the device suitable for battery-powered systems. An ultra-low 2µA shutdown current can further prolong battery life. Internal loop compensation eliminates the tedious task of loop compensation design and minimizes external components. The device has an option for constant frequency FPWM mode to achieve small output-voltage ripple at light load.

The LMR23630 employs peak current-mode control architecture. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (FB pin) with an internal reference and drives the COMP node. The COMP voltage sets the peak current threshold for the high-side MOSFET. When the high-side switch current reaches the threshold, it turns off and the low-side synchronous MOSFET turns on. In PFM mode, the device reduces switching frequency at light loads to maintain efficiency. The internal oscillator generates the switching clock at 400kHz or 2.1MHz based on the RT pin configuration. Protection circuits include cycle-by-cycle current limit, hiccup-mode output short protection, and thermal shutdown.
