The LM63625DQDRRRQ1 is a Texas Instruments AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified synchronous step-down DC-DC converter in a 12-WSON (DRR) package with wettable flanks for automated optical inspection in automotive manufacturing. The device accepts 3.5V to 36V input and delivers up to 2.5A output current with pin-selectable output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, or adjustable (1V to 20V). The 23µA typical quiescent current at no load is among the lowest for 36V automotive bucks, minimizing battery drain in always-on systems. The 2.1MHz switching frequency with pin-selectable 400kHz option enables small inductor and capacitor sizing. The pseudo-random spread spectrum modulation reduces peak EMI emissions, helping systems pass CISPR 25 automotive EMC requirements without additional shielding. The 50ns minimum on-time supports high step-down ratios at 2.1MHz. Integrated high-side (93mΩ) and low-side (61mΩ) MOSFETs eliminate external switches. The RESET (power-good) pin with 3ms release timer provides MCU power sequencing. Protection features include thermal shutdown, UVLO, cycle-by-cycle current limit, and hiccup short-circuit protection. The -40°C to +150°C junction temperature range covers the full automotive under-hood environment.

The LM63625-Q1 uses peak current-mode control with a fixed-frequency oscillator that can be set to 400kHz or 2.1MHz via the SYNC/MODE pin. The error amplifier compares the FB pin voltage with the internal reference (1.0V for adjustable, or fixed 3.3V/5V) and produces a COMP signal that sets the peak inductor current threshold. The high-side MOSFET turns on at the beginning of each switching cycle, ramping up the inductor current. When the current reaches the COMP threshold, the high-side MOSFET turns off and the low-side synchronous MOSFET turns on, ramping the current down. At light loads, the device enters pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) mode where switching pulses are issued only when needed, reducing the effective frequency and minimizing switching losses. The 23µA IQ is achieved by biasing the control circuits at very low currents during PFM mode. The spread spectrum modulator dithers the switching frequency by ±10% with a pseudo-random pattern, spreading the switching harmonic energy across a wider bandwidth and reducing peak EMI measurements. The 50ns minimum on-time is achieved through fast internal comparators and gate drivers.
