The AT89LS52-16AU is a low-voltage 8-bit microcontroller based on the industry-standard 8051 architecture, featuring 8KB of in-system programmable Flash memory. Operating from 2.7V to 4.0V at up to 16MHz, it provides 3.3V-compatible operation ideal for mixed-voltage systems. The device includes 256 bytes of RAM, 32 I/O lines, three 16-bit timers, a full-duplex UART, watchdog timer, and dual data pointers. ISP capability allows firmware updates without removing the device from the circuit.

The AT89LS52 executes the standard MCS-51 instruction set with most instructions completing in 1-2 machine cycles (12 oscillator periods per machine cycle at 16MHz). The CPU fetches instructions from the 8KB on-chip Flash, accesses data in the 256-byte internal RAM, and communicates through the 32 general-purpose I/O lines organized as Port 0-3. The three 16-bit timers can operate in modes 0-3 including capture, auto-reload, and baud rate generation. The UART supports full-duplex serial communication with programmable baud rates. ISP programming is performed through the SPI interface (P1.5=MOSI, P1.6=MISO, P1.7=SCK).
