The 4N25 from Vishay is a phototransistor output optocoupler with base connection providing 5300Vrms isolation voltage, 20% minimum CTR at 10mA, and 150kHz bandwidth in a DIP-6 package.

The 4N25 consists of a gallium arsenide infrared LED and a silicon NPN phototransistor separated by an optically transparent isolation barrier. When current flows through the LED, it emits infrared light that is detected by the phototransistor base region, causing collector current to flow proportional to the LED current (CTR). The base pin allows external biasing for speed/gain tradeoff. The isolation barrier provides 5300Vrms electrical isolation between input and output circuits.
