The isolation barrier provides 2500Vrms withstand voltage, protecting the MCU from ground loops and common-mode voltage transients common in industrial environments. The 250kbps data rate supports RS-485 communication up to 1200m at lower speeds. The RE (Receiver Enable, active LOW) and DE (Driver Enable, active HIGH) pins control bus direction: typically RE and DE are tied together for half-duplex operation (receive mode when LOW, transmit mode when HIGH).
