It controls a boost converter to shape the input current to follow the input voltage waveform, achieving power factor greater than 0.99. The multiplier block (MULT pin) senses the rectified line voltage and multiplies it by the error amplifier output (COMP) to generate a sinusoidal current reference. The MOSFET turns on when the ZCD pin detects the inductor current has returned to zero (via auxiliary winding). The MOSFET stays on until the current sense (CS) voltage reaches the multiplier output, then turns off. This natural zero-current switching eliminates reverse recovery losses in the boost diode and reduces EMI.
