The modulator produces a 1-bit data stream whose duty cycle is proportional to the input voltage, using a 2nd-order noise-shaping loop that pushes quantization noise to high frequencies. This bitstream crosses the isolation barrier via integrated capacitive coupling elements. The low-side circuit outputs the 1-bit stream on DOUT synchronized to CLKOUT (21MHz). An external digital filter (sinc3, typically implemented in MCU\/CPLD) decimates the bitstream into a 16-bit result.
