The device uses a PNP pass transistor which allows very low dropout voltage (380mV typical at 100mA) compared to standard NPN-based regulators. The internal reference is a bandgap circuit trimmed to 1.235V, which is amplified by an internal resistor divider to produce the 3.3V output.
