The photogenerated carriers are amplified by the transistor's current gain (hFE), producing a collector current proportional to the incident light intensity. (2) The on-state collector current of 3.5mA typical at 1mW\/cm2 irradiance provides a strong output signal that can directly drive logic inputs or be further amplified. The 0.4V maximum saturation voltage at 2mA collector current ensures compatibility with digital logic thresholds. (3) The 15us rise\/fall time is determined by the carrier transit time in the base region and the load resistance. The 100nA maximum dark current at VCE=20V ensures low noise in the absence of IR illumination.
