During forward conduction, current flows from anode to cathode with low voltage drop (0.875V max at 1A). When the applied voltage reverses, the diode must transition from conducting to blocking state. The reverse recovery time (trr) of 35 ns is the time required for the stored minority carriers to be swept out of the junction region before the diode can block reverse voltage.
