Each channel consists of a steering diode pair (one diode from I\/O to VCC, one from I\/O to GND) that clamps both positive and negative ESD transients. During normal operation, the diodes are reverse-biased and draw negligible leakage (<1uA). When a positive ESD event exceeds VCC + 0.6V, the upper diode conducts, diverting the ESD current to VCC. When a negative ESD event pulls the I\/O below -0.6V, the lower diode conducts, diverting current to GND. The ultra-low 0.5pF capacitance makes the SP3002-04JTG suitable for high-speed signal lines: USB 2.0 High-Speed (480Mbps), HDMI (3.4Gbps per lane), and DisplayPort. At 0.5pF, the signal integrity impact is negligible (the RC time constant with a 50-ohm impedance is 25ps, well below the USB 2.0 bit period of 2ns).
