The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (via an internal resistor divider) with an internal bandgap reference voltage. The amplifier output drives the PMOS gate to regulate the output voltage. The low 1.5uA quiescent current is achieved by biasing the error amplifier and bandgap reference at minimal current levels while maintaining regulation stability. The P-channel MOSFET allows the dropout voltage to be very low (200mV at 150mA) since the gate can be driven below the source. PSRR of 65dB at 1kHz is achieved by the high open-loop gain of the error amplifier rejecting input supply variations. The current limit circuit senses the pass transistor current and reduces the gate drive when the limit is exceeded.
