The I2C bidirectional signals are internally split into two unidirectional paths communicating in opposite directions through dedicated transformer-isolated channels. A special input buffer differentiates between externally generated input signals and the devices own output signals, preventing bus contention and latch-up. When the device detects an externally driven logic low on Side 1, it transmits this to Side 2 which pulls the corresponding pin low. The input threshold is at least 50mV below the output low level, guaranteeing that the devices own output is never interpreted as an input. The hot-swap circuit suppresses glitches during live insertion by disabling outputs until VDD reaches the UVLO threshold.
