It uses current-mode control with an integrated 3A\/40V N-channel MOSFET. The FSW pin selects between 500kHz (float) and 2.2MHz (connect to VDD), trading efficiency for inductor size. At 2.2MHz, a 3.3uH inductor suffices, reducing footprint by 50% vs 500kHz designs. The feedback voltage is 1.229V, set by an external resistor divider. The COMP pin allows external Type-II or Type-III compensation for optimal transient response with various output capacitor types. The SS pin controls soft-start time: tSS = C_SS x 1.229V \/ 5uA.
